Feed:

We use frozen-thawed rats from Cold Blooded Cafe for all of our snakes. Please contact us for the specific size rodent your new snake was eating.
All of our rats eat Teklad 2018 Lab Blocks as a base diet 24/7. For treats, DDR rats are used to getting: kale, carrots, broccoli, peas, dried millet, sunflower seeds with shells, chickpeas, frozen grain mixes from Whole Foods, and plain cooked pasta.

Breeding females and pups under 4 months old can also eat scrambled eggs, canned kitten food, and KMR Step 2 kitten formula in a small bowl (like a soy sauce bowl) with a tablespoon of the dust from the bottom of the lab block bag mixed in. We call it "cookies and milk!"
Caging:

All animals must be kept in a clean, spacious cage for their physical and mental health. For ball pythons, we use Vision Cages and Vision Boa racks. Our Boas are housed in 6 or 8-foot x 2-foot x 2-foot Melamine or PVC enclosures with locking, sliding glass doors . We like Animal Plastics cages, as they make an eight-foot cage that is suitable for large female Boas.
The only cages we recommend for rats are Midwest Critter Nation cages - they are by far the safest, easiest to clean, best cages for pet rats! Do NOT buy the “Ferret Nation” cages, as they have 1” bar spacing and your young rats WILL escape! Rats can be clumsy, especially the first night they spent in a new cage, so we recommend placing fall breakers every 12” from the top of the cage to the bottom to catch any rats who slip and fall. Any spaces not covered by the fall breakers should have hammocks or some other way to catch a falling rat!
Bedding/Litter:

We use BabiChip Coconut Chips in our reptiles' enclosures, and Fresh News Original Pellet Cat Litter for our rats.
While snake enclosures can usually go for a month with only daily spot-cleaning, rats need ALL of their bedding changed and their cages wiped down with alcohol wipes at least once per week. A clean rat is a healthy rat!
Aspen wood shavings are another bedding option for rats, but they can be sneeze-inducing for human allergy sufferers, so we don't use them for that reason. We also fill all of the rats’ hanging bedding boxes with an inch of paper pellets with shredded crinkle paper up to the brim for burrowing fun! We also sprinkle a few Kaytee Yogurt Drops, unsalted nuts, or millet seeds in each box.

Veterinarians We Trust:

Our rats see Dr. Caron at the Pet Hospital of Peñasquitos, as she is great with rats!

Our reptiles see Dr. Gillet at the Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital.

For after-hours emergency care of both reptiles and rats, we see Dr. Todd Cecil at the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center in La Mesa, CA.
Health & Temperament Guarantee:

We guarantee our rats and Snakes to be in perfect health for one month after you receive them. This does not apply to rats who are going to be exposed to other rats in your home, at a show, or outside. Our health guarantee ONLY applies to animals who have been seen by a licensed veterinarian at least once since they left our home and moved to yours.
We guarantee that our rats will not bite you for any reason. If a rat does bite you, we ask that you return the rat to our rattery so we can reevaluate their temperament. You can then choose a replacement rat from one of our current litters, or wait for another litter to become available.
Breeding Mentorships:

We are happy to mentor anyone who wants to breed Boas or ball pythons, so please contact us if you need any guidance.

We will be offering rat breeding mentorships starting in the spring of 2025. If you are interested in breeding fancy rats before then, we can connect you with three more established ratteries who may be able to mentor you sooner.
Rehoming:

We will gladly take any rat or reptile back into our home if you can no longer keep them.

Please do not burden rescues with animals from Dracarys Dragons & Rattery, as the shelters are already filled with abandoned and homeless animals who do not have anywhere else to go. Our rats can ALWAYS come home to us!
Payment Methods
We accept all major Credit / Debit Cards, Zelle, Venmo, AfterPay, and Square payments online, as well as cash for in-person sales.
If you would like to pay for your animal(s) in cash, we require a 50% hold deposit for each animal to make your pickup appointment.
Hold deposits are non-refundable, but they can be transferred to another available animal of equal or lesser value now or in the future.
Shipping & Local Pickups:
All reptiles are shipped with insurance from Ship Your Reptiles - if you purchase a snake during a time when they are not offering insurance (usually during extreme weather events), we will care for your snake until it is safe to ship. Thank you for understanding and putting the animals' health first!

Rats must be picked up in San Diego, CA, 92122. There are animal transport services that will deliver your rat(s) to you for an extra fee, but these only occur sporadically, so it might take some time to find a shipper who is heading your way after you purchase your rat(s). Thank you for your patience - our rats are definitely worth waiting for!
